Girls talk

Ladies, I’m just wondering why guys are so comfortable asking women for money? For some men, it just seems to come so easy!
Let me give you an example. I met this guy three nights ago. We spoke on the phone twice and have texted frequently. In a recent phone call, I asked him, "How's it going?"  Just small simple conversation, or so I was thinking.  When he responded back he mentioned, “I just had a death in the family. “ Next he mentioned he had unexpected car repairs. I mentioned that I just had my car in the shop last month. Then he said, “I’m short on my trip to Atlanta.” Before I could extend any condolences, I'm listening to dude asking to borrow $100 because he hasn't gotten paid from Uber.
Come again Sir? My only response. I wasn't ready for that one. I thought I was lending an ear. Of course I said “no”. Then there was an awkward silence on the phone.  It lasted for over 20 seconds. I could only hear large breaths with small pauses in between.  I said, “My father was calling me on the other line, I have to go.”  (My father passed away 15 years ago.)
As I was listening to him, I was thinking there's a difference between being down on your luck and not having your priorities in order. It sounded like he couldn't afford to go to the funeral, but it wasn't happening at my expense! Was I being hustled? Many women may feel bad for a man that just lost a family member and is having car problems and hasn’t gotten paid by his employer! Many women may be willing to kick in for the trip or the car repair.  To me, it sounded like he had a good deal of practice at this and knew which lines would work. How many times had he done this in the past? Was there even a job? A car or a funeral?
Ladies I know it’s hard dating these days, especially after 30, but we have to watch what we settle for in the beginning.  If he could not afford to take care of himself, why should I expect him to take care of me or help or at least contribute?
We have to set the bar high by raising the standards. Is it acceptable to pay for a guy’s car repair or plane ticket?  What are your thoughts?
